Dental Surgery
Just like humans, pets’ teeth need regular care too! Dental disease is the most common health issue in dogs and cats, and also the leading cause of chronic pain and inflammation. Despite this, it often goes unnoticed until the problem becomes severe.
Good dental health is vital for your pet’s overall wellbeing. Imagine how your mouth would feel if you never brushed your teeth — that’s what many pets experience when plaque and tartar build up. Over time, this bacteria causes gingivitis, periodontal disease, tooth loss, and infection, which can spread to vital organs like the heart, liver, and kidneys.
Signs of Dental Disease
- Bad breath
- Yellow-brown tartar along the gum line
- Red or bleeding gums
- Dropping food or chewing on one side
- Pawing at the face or drooling
- Reluctance to eat or play
- Behavioural changes or reduced grooming (especially in cats)
If your pet is showing any of these signs, book a dental check-up with one of our veterinarians. Early assessment and treatment can prevent pain and save your pet’s teeth.
Professional Dental Cleaning
A professional dental clean for pets is similar to a scale and polish for humans, but it requires general anaesthesia to ensure a safe and thorough examination. Once asleep, our veterinarians perform a detailed dental assessment, including dental x-rays, scaling, and polishing using specialised veterinary equipment.
Anaesthesia-free dental cleaning may make teeth look better temporarily, but it does not address pain or infection below the gumline. True dental care involves assessing every tooth and the supporting bone structure to detect disease early.
Before the procedure, your pet will undergo a health check and pre-anaesthetic testing to ensure safety. After the clean, we’ll provide a tailored plan to maintain oral health at home — including brushing techniques, dental diets, and approved chews.
